Abstract
This project covers the development of a program to reach K-12 students in which an exciting and scientific relevant project is posed. The program is a contest in which K-12 students are asked to develop ideas to solve problems of importance to save the world. This contest is supported by MO-NASA along with WIN Region IV, the Callaway Nuclear Plant, the University of Missouri and the MU Nuclear Science and Engineering Institute. The topic of the 2010 - 2011 WINNERS Contest is Save the World from the Giant Asteriod.

Out in space there are hundreds of what we know as "near-earth" objects. These are silent asteroids that move around our earth and one might hit us someday if we don't figure out how to stop it. The website for the contest is: http://www.winregioniv.com/winners/WINnersmain.php. The goal of the WINNERS contest is for K-12 students to study and use math, science and creativity.
Janese Neher has an engineering BS and an MS degree. She is a consulting engineering with Ameren UE at the Callaway nuclear plant. She is a graduate student at the University of Missouri in the nuclear science and engineering program working towards her PhD.
