Asst. Professor Garry "Smitty" Grubbs II

Asst. Prof. Grubbs received his Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry at Texas A&M University in May 2006 and his PhD in Chemistry at the University of North Texas under Prof. Steve Cooke in May 2011. He then went on to do a Postdoctoral Fellowship with Prof. Stew Novick of Wesleyan University from 2011-September 2013 when he joined the Chemistry Department faculty at Missouri S&T. Along with being the Associate Advisor of the Mars Rover Design Team on campus, Asst. Prof. Grubbs is currently the Treasurer for the Local Section of the American Chemical Society.

Frank Marshall

Frank graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelor's of Science from Missouri S&T in Physics and Applied Mathematics. Frank joined the group in the Spring of 2014 when he was helping to find another advisor for the Mars Rover Design Team and began to get interested in Dr. Grubbs' research in building and applying spectroscopic techniques to address fundamental interests. In 2015, he had an integral part in building a low-cost Raman spectrometer for the team to use on their Rover design. In 2015 he decided to continue his studies in graduate school under Grubbs in microwave spectroscopy.

Amanda Duerden

Amanda graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor's of Science from Missouri S&T in Chemistry. Amanda soon joined the group in the following Fall where she had an interest in both experimental and theoretical physical chemistry. Since there are many projects that Profs. Dawes and Grubbs work on together, she decided to join both groups. Her projects involve accurately predicting and solving difficult angular momenta coupling in problems in van der Waals systems.

David Gillcrist

David joined the group as a freshman in the Spring of 2014 after getting interested in the lanthanide and actinide-containing species. David currently is a Physics and Applied Mathematics major at Missour S&T. Since then, David has been integral in getting the CP-FTMW spectrometer up and running as well as being involved in implementing the laser ablation source on the CP-FTMW. He is currently working on thorium and uranium-containing molecules and spectroscopies.

Nicole Moon

Nicole is a junior Chemistry major at Missouri S&T. She joined the group in Spring 2016 after becoming interested in Dr. Grubbs' research through the freshman chemistry class. Nicole enjoys spectroscopy and how that plays a role in astrochemistry. She particularly enjoys the aspects that help her learn more about the world of chemistry. She is currently working on the interactions of O2 with H2O and O2 with HCl. She is also a member of the W.T. Schrenk Society (Chemistry Society) and the Mars Rover Design Team.
