Eccentric Loading
This week we will put an eccentric load on an aluminum column. The specimen will have five uniaxial strain gages mounted at various spots along the cross section. You will convert the strain readings to stress and then compare the experimental and theoretical stress distributions. The setup commonly gives percent differences less than 2%, so it gives us a chance to emphasize the validity of multiple CE 110 topics (strain-gages, Hooke's law, σ = N/A, σ = My/I) at once.
