The building was completed in 1913. The original
cost for the building was $ 45,000. The building's original purpose
was to be a post office, which remained until 1963. In the fifty
years of service as post office the building had few minor reparations,
until 1955 when loading dock was added. The increase in population
and increase in postal services, Rolla's post office was moved to
new and bigger location. The existing Postal building was granted
to Public library for $1.00. Even thou, Public Library existed before
1963, the new building gave it more formal look.
During 1981, Library building was badly damaged by fire. The building
was renovated for next two years. During the time of renovation,
the building was practically built for second time. Everything
inside the building was renovated and replaced, as well as few
new features were added.
